how does one discern that this was a staged photo op? By reading the text.
The guy "had to be freed from the vehicle." Why? The rear hatch appears unobstructed and unbent. Was the guy too crippled by the impact to climb out?

Another clue: "Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Northumbria Police ..."
I see. So this crippled guy was helped out of the car but made a clean getaway with no-one even snapping a pic of him on their phone.
