New registrants: if you try to register you will get a message that we are not accepting new members. Due to the limitations of this forum software which is not designed to deal with incessant CIA harrassment, we have no alternative but to disable automatic registration, and then we can't change this automatic message. Your account needs to be created by admin before you can post in the forums. Because otherwise, almost all registrants are CIA sock puppets. To get a forum account you need to send a brief presentation email to loohanforum at gee mail dot com, also suggesting a user name. Then we can enable you manually. But before you even do that, take a look around the forum and my site and decide whether you REALLY WANT to join/post, before you jack us around. Most seemingly genuine people who apply fail to even ever log in once to change their password after we go through the work of creating a membership for them. Then we must quickly delete their account again lest the CIA has intercepted their temporary password. And of the few who do change their password, most still never post. Maybe they realize we are too weird for them, I don't know. They get real quiet, never to be heard from again.

GLOSSARY: Sometimes unusual terminology or abbreviations are used that with some luck you might find defined here.

San Pedro cactus

SanPedro9.24.jpg
This plant has a remarkable "orgone" presence.
Five or six years ago Joe brought it to my attention. He was buying hunks on eBay and eating them for the mescaline content. Well i had already tried some decades ago and i could not eat it. it is not appetizing. I was not interested in doing that but i was impressed by the vibe of the plant so i ordered a cutting and planted it in a pot with perlite, bionized and azeztulized quartz river rocks, and bionized and azeztulized sand.

It flowered for the first time this year. This is the last of 3 flowers. They only flower for a few days, then the flower closes, turns dark and droopy, and eventually falls off along with a round cluster of seeds.
I saw a hummingbird on it a little while ago.

Before i bought it i read that it can withstand wind chill temperatures down to -50F! Amazing. I envisioned planting pieces all over my property. But either that was a typo or i misread it, unfortunately. Should be 50F.
Before i realized this i had it out a while in the winter with nights in the upper 20s! You can see where i had to cut it years ago. There used to be a thinner portion there, newer growth maybe a foot long. But one day i noticed it was all wrinkly. I looked it up again and realized my mistake about the temperature. Composted the piece. Only a couple years later it occurred to me that maybe i should have tasted this halfway freeze-dried piece.

The following spring it sprouted a new segment at the rim, which has grown a lot.
However it's kind of a hassle. I have to bring it in if the temps drop below 50 or if there is a heavy rainy spell, and bring it back out when it's warm and sunny. I had to re-pot it with added gravel. The pot is heavy and the plant is growing tall, and will continue growing until it's real difficult to move. What will i do then? Cut off a bunch and send to Joe? But then i will end up with another ugly flat grey scab from which a sprout will come off the edge. That may be what i end up doing: cutting it slightly below the last cut. Maybe root that and then give it to some unfortunate person.

Errg. So i don't really recommend it unless you live in a very warm place or have a hothouse.
And cacti are high in oxalates so i can't recommend eating it.

Re: San Pedro cactus

Won't mind taking a piece !
Where I live , temperatures rarely go bellow 0⁰ Celsius in winter, but can go as high as 43⁰ Celsius in summer .

. .. Ok, you people! Sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if I’m not back by dawn... call the president.. .
