The LPGA Tour, which removed its requirement for golfers to be 'female at birth' in 2010, requires players to submit a written declaration stating that they identify as female, proof of gender reassignment surgery, and evidence of at least one year of hormonal therapy maintaining testosterone levels at a specified range.

The USGA has also adopted a policy that allows for biological male golfers to compete against biological females if they have undergone gender reassignment surgery and met hormone therapy requirements.

'I have always been afraid to talk about my past. It was something I had therapy for in order to forget but, now at the age of 40 years old and a happy woman, it is the right time to share with people a little about my past life.

'I think my story will help many young adults and parents to deal with and understand gender dysphoria, and also my fans, readers and haters to understand how my life was, living trapped in the wrong body and not being understood.'

The comic book is to be launched just before Comic-Con in London on May 24.
