New registrants: if you try to register you will get a message that we are not accepting new members. Due to the limitations of this forum software which is not designed to deal with incessant CIA harrassment, we have no alternative but to disable automatic registration, and then we can't change this automatic message. Your account needs to be created by admin before you can post in the forums. Because otherwise, almost all registrants are CIA sock puppets. To get a forum account you need to send a brief presentation email to loohanforum at gee mail dot com, also suggesting a user name. Then we can enable you manually. But before you even do that, take a look around the forum and my site and decide whether you REALLY WANT to join/post, before you jack us around. Most seemingly genuine people who apply fail to even ever log in once to change their password after we go through the work of creating a membership for them. Then we must quickly delete their account again lest the CIA has intercepted their temporary password. And of the few who do change their password, most still never post. Maybe they realize we are too weird for them, I don't know. They get real quiet, never to be heard from again.

GLOSSARY: Sometimes unusual terminology or abbreviations are used that with some luck you might find defined here.

fingertips numb after cold exposure?

Raynaud's disease
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/176713

A person with Raynaud’s disease experiences pain in the extremities, for example, the fingers, when temperatures drop.

Blood vessels narrow and almost completely shut down. Fingers or toes turn from white to blue and, then, as the blood returns, they flush red.

Also known as Raynaud’s syndrome or Raynaud’s phenomenon, Raynaud’s disease affects 5 to 10 percent of Americans, but only 1 in 10 seek treatment. Females are an estimated nine times more likely to be affected than males...

There is no cure for Raynaud’s disease, but there are ways to manage symptoms...

I never heard of it until a week or so ago. I have had middle fingertips turning numb for about 5 years. First just the right fingertip. I thought it was peripheral neuropathy. Symptoms fluctuated but recently after taking a cold shower most of my fingertips including thumbs turned numb, and some fingers were white halfway down the second section! The worst it had ever been. I had never even noticed white fingers before (nor looked for them).

That's when i did some web searching and found out about Reynaud's. Several sources all agree, there is no treatment, just resign yourself to keeping your hands warm.

Then i did a search "Reynaud's TCM", and read to moxibust one's navel area. Well, i had some moxa sticks sitting around gathering dust so i tried it. So far i only did it for a few minutes 3 times, and the symptoms are virtually gone for now. I do the 2 points below the navel too.

The weird thing is, no-where in  my searching could i find mention of the DELAY phenomenon. If i took a brief cold bath, swim, or shower, i would not notice numbness until several minutes after i got out. It would then start mild and in some cases build up for some time, then slowly go away.

And merely dunking my hands or arms in cold water would do little. But if i got my back etc wet it was another matter. I have sometimes soaked my arms in a very cold stock tank, all the way to my shoulders almost, for several minutes (when my arms ached) but that did not cause much numbness.

I never experienced pain, just numbness. It would also happen a bit if i went on a longish hike in sub-freezing weather with inadequate gloves.

Re: fingertips numb after cold exposure?

Yeah but that is not cold-related.
