I once climbed into one of those towers. 1975 in Pennsylvania, outside State College, i believe. There was a guy up there in a chair. No bed, stove, or other furnishings that i recall. Maybe a table and a couple chairs.
Those people worked in shifts. They did not live there and sleep.
After writing this i did some searching and was barely able to glean that there still are some jobs in such towers and that at least some of them are live-in.
