They then saw a hand come out, and the boy started speaking in broken Dutch and German. The couple were able to establish he was aged about 17 and from Egypt {Egypt!}.
They called police who arrived and used a crowbar to open the box - telling the couple to stand back because he might be armed with a gun, reported The Sun.

Even though at least one foot and one hand were outside the box, it was still jammed so tight that heroic measures were required.

The couple also think he had help, because the box was bolted shut from the outside after he got in, and the contents - including a camera and shoes {SHOES} - were stolen...

The incident was remarkably similar to that of the Channel 4 comedy Home, shown earlier this year in March, about a family finding an illegal immigrant in their car boot.

So he snuck in, the other guy shut the box on him and left with the goodies. The couple drives home, then despite the box being bolted from the outside a foot and a hand come out of the box and chatting ensues. Then the cops pry open the box with a crowbar. Got it.

I guess Customs scrutiny when entering UK from France is pretty perfunctory.
